Carl tries to be a fan

I know I said in my last post that I was back and said how I was going to be really regular - as in posting things on my blog, not the other kind of being regular...that's all hunky-dory thanks - but there been so much to do over the last few weeks.  I've just been far too busy to post anything.  OK, maybe busy isn't the right word.  I've been occupied, shall we say.

I've become a fan.  Yeah, I'm as surprised as you probably are.  Never thought in a million years I'd hear myself say those four little words.  Although, thinking about it, I have been a fan of things before.  I've always been a fan of eating puppies for example.  And I've been a fan of the old "death-roll" method of killing prey since I was a junior croc' (huge fan of the old "death-roll" me).

But they're just preferences compared to being a real fan. A sports fan.  Everyone's a sports fan at the moment.  Or so it seems.  And I'm discovering that there are so many different sports you that can be a fan of...

Like football.  Apparently there's a big football competition going on somewhere or other.  The New Keeper's been following it. And almost everyone where I work (sitting on my partition) is following it too, 'cos they're fans, you see.  Even those who aren't normally even the slightest bit interested in football are being fans.  They're talking about it everyday, discussing how everyone is doing, discussing if some footbally man bit another man - sounds like he could be a good crocodile if only he learnt to death-roll his prey properly.  They're meeting in pubs to watch it together on TV, trying to predict who will win more accurately than everyone else (yes, they've even turned that into a game in its own right!) and craziest of all some of them even collect sticky pictures of the thing - not real sticky pictures, you understand, but online sticky pictures.

I thought collecting sticky pictures from the Internet was supposed to be socially unacceptable.  Oh, well. I guess you learn something new about humans everyday!

But there's not just football.  Today there's been tennis and motor racing...and cycling! Surely that was bad planning on someone's part - didn't they check there would be a clash before they settled on the dates of all these competitions?  I must confess I don't really understand football.  All it seems to do is get the New Keeper all hot under the collar and make him shout at the telly alot (well alot more).

I understand tennis even less.  I swear they make the scores up as they go along.  The bloke in-charge of the game today kept calling one of the players "luv".  That's not very politcally correct, is it?  To his credit though, the player didn't let it affect him.

As for the cycling, I have absolutely no idea at all! (And since when did we become part of France?).

So, football or tennis, or motor racing, or cycling?  Which one should I become a proper fan of?  I've been trying to follow the all of them, but that's just taking far too much time and it's far too confusing.  I need to settle on just one and be a fan of that.  Or should I find something else, something a little less popular?  You know me.  I'm never one to follow the crowd.  If you have any ideas, let me know.  In the meantime I think I'm going to try to find out about more about this footbally man and see if he wants any lessons on how to death-roll his prey properly...

Regards
Carl
